Weaving, weaving

It has been a while since I wrote on this blog. Someone asked me recently if I have a blog, and while walking in the woods today, I thought it might be a good idea to start writing again—if I can actually manage to keep at it (a pretty hard task when you have a toddler and many projects on the go). But here we go.

I’ll start by telling you about my newfound love for hand-weaving on a rigid heddle loom. I always like to come up with new ideas for merch to sell at gigs, and I’m one of those people who need to work with their hands in order to still their minds. I’ve found that weaving is perfect for me—it keeps both the mind and body in the flow and in the present. Free therapy, really.

My weaving primarily uses scrap materials from the finishing mill in the Scottish Borders (which would otherwise go to waste). These materials are truly beautiful—patterns made out of high-quality wool—and the finished products often look very much like landscapes. I make various things out of them: rugs, table mats, bags, and other projects.

My son (Yarrow) helps too by placing loads of cars on top of the threads and using them as "train tracks." We wouldn’t want it to be too easy...

We walk in the woods almost every day. Maybe my next post will be about the little bits of music that come through on our walks... mostly funny, gibberish sounds.

If my music was a basket of scraps, this is what it would look like...

I'm in love with it! This brought back memories of finishing my PhD and searching for Phd thesis printing and binding Calgary. A degree of stress loomed then, and guess what? I ended up finding myself drawn to weaving as well; after long writing sessions, it proved a very soothing appeal. Working your hands, after all, is just so grounding. Beautiful, your suggestion of scrap materials, in both creativity and sustainability. Can't wait to read more, especially about the music walking with Yarrow!

I think assignment help Dubai is really useful for students who find it hard to manage their studies and deadlines.
